On Sunday, I biked to the west side of the property and placed a camera near Eagle Canyon. Saw lots of fresh deer tracks and bedding areas in the area as well as multiple bear scats.

Also on Sunday, I set a live trap to catch a pesky raccoon who’s been hanging around the shop, eating all the cat food, peeing in their water, knocking over stuff, and being a total nuisance. Yesterday morning I checked the trap and discovered I’d caught one of the shop cats. Then this morning I captured a different shop cat. Neither were pleased and the bandit is still at large.

Three hours before sunrise yesterday morning, I was awakened because the dogs were barking ferociously outside and nearby. I grabbed a flashlight and ran outside to find they’d treed a bear about 25 feet from the house. The beast was growling and clicking its teeth from a perch 15 feet high in a juniper tree. I brought the dogs in so the bear could move on and by sunrise it was gone.
